Jen Hoskins, LCSW, NADD-DDS (she/her)

About Me: I am a mental health counselor who works with all types of people, including people with disabilities. I work hard to make mental health treatment accessible to everyone. I have gone to school and have special training to help people with developmental and intellectual disabilities who want mental health support.

When we work together, I will listen to you and learn what is hard. I am also going to look for ways you are strong. We will talk about the changes you want to make. Together, we will learn ways to help you with sadness, anger, worries, and fear.  We will talk about painful memories and traumatic experiences. We will learn new ways to help you feel safe.

Another way of saying this: I am a licensed clinical social worker focused on expanding access to mental health support for all people, including those with developmental and intellectual disability. I hold a specialist certification through NADD in providing services centered on the dual diagnosis of intellectual disability and mental health needs.

I am skilled at working with people experiencing anxiety and depression and also those working through trauma. I have an extensive background in supporting people experiencing crises.

In sessions, I will use a strengths-based approach to honor what is hard and discover all that is strong. I am certified in motivational interviewing, and I use this model when the people I work with desire to make changes. I also use Self-Compassion, Positive Identity Development, Mindfulness, and Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help people work through challenging thoughts and painful experiences.

Personal information: Sometimes, knowing personal details about a counselor is helpful to determine if they are a good fit. I am a straight, cisgender, white woman. I am also the parent of six kids. I relate to disability and mental health needs through lived experiences or the experiences of people I love. One thing to know about me is that I have a vision disorder where I am slowly losing my sight. I wear big glasses with thick lenses to help me see better.

A little more about working with me: I work part-time at the University of Oregon in clinical research and part-time at Roots Therapy NW.
