Julia Bryson, LCSW (she/her)
About me: I enjoy working with individuals who want to heal from past hurts and find ways to create change in their lives. Together, we can work to accomplish this through a combination of building insight and learning new skills and approaches to manage the difficult parts of life.
I most closely align with a humanistic approach to therapy, which means I believe in viewing each person holistically- all of your thoughts, feelings, actions, and experiences are not only interconnected, but unique to you. Your autonomy and value as a person come first in therapy. I strive to recognize and minimize the power dynamics in the therapy relationship, and be especially mindful of the roles that race, gender, and other identities play in oppression both in and out of therapy.
Some tools and approaches I use include EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, and general trauma informed approaches. I also have experience in working with people with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, especially those who have experienced trauma. I approach therapy as a collaborative process rooted in trust, respect, and safety.
